As the school year comes to a close, Upson-Lee Middle School is proud to reflect on an outstanding year filled with academic growth, student success, and memorable experiences that highlight the spirit and excellence of our school community.

One of the shining accomplishments this year was the continued success of our Fight Free Program, designed to promote a positive and respectful school culture. We are proud to recognize the Silver Knights and Black Squires teams, both of which completed the entire year without a single fight—an incredible testament to the students’ commitment to kindness and conflict resolution.

Academically, Georgia Milestones scores are on the rise, and for the first time, a record number of students achieved Distinguished Learner status—the highest level of performance on the state assessment. This reflects the dedication of our students, teachers, and families in the pursuit of academic excellence.

In recognition of academic achievement, Upson-Lee Middle School was honored as a Math Leader School for outstanding performance in 8th Grade Enhanced Algebra. This distinction highlights our school’s strong commitment to preparing students for rigorous high school math courses and beyond.

Upson-Lee Middle School was also named a National Beta District of Distinction, a prestigious recognition awarded to only a select number of schools across the country. This honor reflects our unwavering focus on academic achievement, character, leadership, and service.

Our students continued to shine beyond the classroom. Several BETA members traveled to Savannah for the State BETA Convention, where they competed and placed in a variety of categories, showcasing their talents and leadership skills. In another exciting achievement, Olivia Childs, a 7th-grade student, was named a finalist in AMLE’s Middle School Sound Off contest, gaining national recognition for her voice and perspective on middle school issues.

The Drama team also had a spotlight moment, earning third place at the Griffin RESA Middle School Drama Competition. Their performance impressed judges and audiences alike, highlighting the creativity and dedication of our young actors and their coaches.

Athletics had a banner year as well. The Girls Volleyball team brought home the league championship, demonstrating incredible teamwork and determination. The Girls Track team dominated at regionals, placing 1st overall and setting a high standard for competition. In addition, the school is eagerly anticipating the completion of a new baseball and softball complex, which will provide upgraded facilities for future generations of athletes.

Our band program soared this year, earning straight Superior ratings at LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation)—a true testament to the talent, discipline, and hard work of our student musicians and band directors.

Enriching experiences extended beyond the school walls. In May, a group of 6th-grade students traveled to Washington, D.C., bringing their social studies curriculum to life with a firsthand look at our nation’s capital. Meanwhile, 8th-grade students participated in a Physics and Engineering workshop at Disney World, combining fun with STEM learning in an unforgettable way.

As we wrap up this incredible school year, we celebrate the many achievements of our students and the hard work of our faculty and staff. Upson-Lee Middle School continues to lead with excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and leadership as we look forward to an even greater year ahead.
